It must be the flower. Simply stated, there is something about the rose that I can't seem to get enough off. There several different species of roses. But whenever I see one, simply can't help myself but have to take a photo. My boss has the some of the most beautiful smelling roses in his backyard. And he allowed me to take photos of my ever growing collection of roses. Perhaps, it's the metaphor the rose perfectly embodies. Here's a poem by Goethe, that describes this (poem is in German. Heidenröslein
Sah ein Knab’ ein Röslein stehn,
Röslein auf der Heiden,
War so jung und morgenschön,
Lief er schnell es nah zu sehn,
Sah’s mit vielen Freuden.
Röslein, Röslein, Röslein rot,
Röslein auf der Heiden.
Knabe sprach: „Ich breche dich,
Röslein auf der Heiden.“
Röslein sprach: „Ich steche dich,
Dass du ewig denkst an mich,
Und ich will’s nicht leiden.“
Röslein, Röslein, Röslein rot,
Röslein auf der Heiden.
Und der wilde Knabe brach
´s Röslein auf der Heiden.
Röslein wehrte sich und stach,
Half ihm doch kein Weh und Ach,
Musst es eben leiden.
Röslein, Röslein, Röslein rot,
Röslein auf der Heiden.
What do you think? Aren't these roses beautiful? Recently, I gave my boss a Fine Art print of his roses, for his birthday. He and his wife absolutely loved them, especially since it was a photo of a flower that grew in their backyard.
